Sybrina Fulton

Witness Summary:

Prosecution’s 36th witness, Sybrina Fulton, is Trayvon Martin’s mother. She has a bachelor’s degree from Grambling State University.

Trayvon was right-handed. He had two tattoos. He had praying hands on his shoulder with names of grandmothers. He also had one of Sybrina’s name on his left wrist.

She says she heard him crying and yelling growing up before his death. She listened to the screaming on the 9-1-1 call and identified that voice as her son’s–Trayvon Martin.

Sybrina tells Mark O’Mara that the first time she heard the tape was in the Mayor’s office. She doesn’t recall who actually played the tape for her. It was not a law enforcement officer. Tracy Martin, Stephanie and Darien Sands, Ben Crump, Natalie Jackson, Javaris (Trayvon’s brother), Bonaparte, Tripplett were present when the tape was played. It was played all at one time for everyone.

O’Mara asked Fulton whether she would have had to accept the fact that if the voice screaming on the tape was not her son’s that she would have to face the fact that Trayvon may have caused his own death.

O’Mara: If you were to listen to that tape and not hear your son’s voice, then it would have been George Zimmerman’s voice? You certainly had to hope that was your son screaming before you heard it?

Sybrina: I didn’t hope for anything. I just simply listened to the tape.
